The applicant, Meyrickton Development (Pty) Ltd, proposed to develop an office park on St Marys Road in Kloof within the eThekwini Municipality. In support of this development, the contractors had to build a new sewerage pump station on the site which would connect to the municipal sewer line on Village Road in front of the shopping centre at the corner of St Marys Road and Village Road. The proposed sewer would traverse north along St Marys Road directly outside the site, thereafter the sewer pipeline would traverse across St Marys Road just before the intersection with Village Road where the pipeline connects to the municipal sewer line on Village Road.
Considering the nature of the proposed construction and its impact on the surrounding road network, a Traffic Management Plan was prepared. The purpose of the TMP was to propose a set of coordinated traffic management strategies that will help to mitigate the impact of the proposed construction on the surrounding road network. The TMP was a multi-faceted plan of operational, communications and demand management strategies to maintain acceptable levels of traffic flow during the construction on the sewer pipeline in St Mary’s Road.
