Transport forms an integral part of all planned developments as it is essential for supporting and improving people’s lives, yet it also consumes valuable resources and has adverse side effects on the environment. As such, a balance must be found that will enable a region’s transportation needs that neither harms the surrounding environment nor depletes valuable resources. The transportation planning for a region needs to be holistic and integrated such that a seamless transportation network can be developed. It is against this backdrop that the Mtubatuba Local Municipality decided to develop a Roads Master Plan for the Mtubatuba Region located in Northern KwaZulu Natal.
The Roads Master Plan will essentially be a workable long-term plan for the development of the road network for this region. This plan will influence many aspects of the proposed development of this regional area and will help guide the region’s transportation and land use decisions for the next decade and beyond.
This roads master plan focused on improving the mobility and accessibility of all travellers to, from and through the Mtubatuba region including commuters, residents and visitors. This backdrop supports a vision of a sustainable, resilient and a liveable region that embraces the goals for economic prosperity, environmental and social well-being while simultaneously harnessing a vibrant culture and identity.
